Keeping a little room for wonder

Field Notes · 01

I’ve been revisiting some of the corners of the internet that once made the world feel larger to me: personal blogs, images, music, people thinking out loud. There was a pleasure in following someone’s curiosity. A photograph could sit beside a question about existence. An outfit, a song, and a difficult thought could belong to the same life.

I want to make room for that here.

Some of the questions have become more demanding with time. How do we tell whether an idea is true? What do our ways of living ask of other people? How can we become more compassionate in practice? I want to keep asking them with enough openness to be surprised.

Beauty belongs in that inquiry too. So do play, colour, affection, making things, and enjoying them. I want to understand more of what it means to be human, and take part in it: listen to someone, learn a little, help where I can, do something beautiful.

These Field Notes will hold the smaller beginnings. A detail worth keeping. A question I haven’t worked out. Something that makes me want to look again.

For this first page, I’m leaving myself a question:

What makes me curious enough to come a little closer?

You’re welcome to carry it into your own day.
